Brown Sepia Taupe Mahoghany Sticky Salivating tongues Twisted Like the languages of the former slaves Rebel Robust Chocolate Chestnut Glorious, goddesses in any view Wide, long, straight Short, fat, big lips Glossy like the chicken Everyone loves to eat Pampered Or calloused hands that picked cotton Or hands that cooked meals for their Master’s family Hands that handled the weight of the world on their shoulders Prestigious Pretty Picked over Butterscotch Russet Golden Color of the Master’s lust Mixed breed Spanish, Creole, Haitian, Half White Brown Big legs Sweet Braids Beads African woven Designed Put on display! Auctioned off Put on the backseat! Shoved Pushed Beaten Lynched Beheaded Raped Brown soil runs deep. Into the veins of many Many deny it. But they can’t This land is our land. Playing a major part of civilization Racism, degradation Music, love, togetherness Fierceness, fiery, pride All together now Brown Is best mixed with everything
