Things Will Work Out by Madi Huffman

Things Will Work Out
by Madi Huffman

it's strange how we are always told that things will work out
we should be saying "things go on"
things don't usually "work out" in the ways we think they are supposed to
set expectations from childhood traumas
and overused optimistic cop outs like "good vibes only" and "stay wild"
sick to death with this "things will work out"
but they also say we don't understand time
nor the mysterious movings of the universe
so humans created hope, a delusion,
a joke we sell ourselves to not feel the opposite,
hopelessness

no,
far better to believe that things will work out
far better to believe in the magic
far better to believe there is a way to repair this heart
instead of feeling consumed with dread that i may never be whole again

Hear Madi Huffman recite the poem on the Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast:

Madison Huffman, aka Madi, is a multifaceted artist from North Carolina. She began writing poetry at a very young age encouraged by her mother who was also a poet. She is a southern born rebel, always finding inspiration in her life adventures, the surroundings of growing up in the south, and the vast love of the human experience. She finds comfort in abstract concepts that describe everyday events and hopes to create a visual experience when digesting her writings. More of her work can be seen on her website at http://www.mannequinmadi.com
