DUBLIN, CA – March 30, 2024 – Dublin, California will transform into a poetry lover’s dream for National Poetry Month 2024 (April 1 – 30). Led by Dublin Poet Laureate James Morehead, a series of events will celebrate the power of poetry while supporting local businesses and showcasing talented poets from the Tri-Valley and beyond. James Morehead: “National Poetry Month is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together to appreciate the beauty and impact of poetry. I’m thrilled to be part of events that blend poetry with the vibrancy of Dublin’s local businesses.”
National Poetry Month was launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996 to celebrate the integral role of poetry in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and—of course—poets, marking poetry’s important place in our lives.
City of Dublin Poetry Walk Returns for Third Year
The third annual City of Dublin Poetry Walk will bring poetry to the streets. Twenty-five poems by selected poets will be displayed in storefront windows of 25 businesses across Dublin. A Poetry Walk map will guide residents and visitors on a self-guided tour celebrating the art of the written word and encouraging patronage of local businesses. Poetry & Wine: A Perfect Pairing at PRIMA Vini Wine Bar
On Friday, April 12th at 6:30 pm, PRIMA Vini Wine Bar will host an evening of exquisite poetry and fine wine. The event will feature readings by acclaimed poets Heather Bourbeau and James Morehead, offering a delightful blend of words and vintage flavors. Free tickets available on Eventbrite.

Aspiring and seasoned poets are encouraged to sign up for a chance to share their work, while audiences can savor the combination of inspiring verse and delectable pizza. James Morehead is Poet Laureate of Dublin, California, host of the Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast, and has published several collections of poetry including “canvas”, “portraits of red and gray”, and “The Plague Doctor.” James’ poem “tethered” was transformed into an award-winning hand drawn animated short film, “gallery” was set to music for baritone and piano, and his poems have appeared in the Ignatian Literary Magazine, Beyond Words Literary Magazine, 2nd Place – Oprelle Oxbow Poetry Contest 2022, Citron Review, Prometheus Dreaming, Cathexis Northwest Press, and other publications.
Heather Bourbeau’s award-winning poetry and fiction have appeared in The Irish Times, The Kenyon Review, Meridian, and The Stockholm Review of Literature. She has been featured on KALW and the San Francisco Public Library’s Poem of the Day, and her writings are part of the Special Collections at the James Joyce Library, University College Dublin (Ireland). Her journalism has appeared in The Economist, The Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Policy. She was a contributing writer to Not On Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond with Don Cheadle and John Prendergast. She has worked with various UN agencies, including the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia and UNICEF Somalia. Her collection Some Days The Bird is a poetry conversation with the Irish-Australian poet Anne Casey (Beltway Editions, 2022). Her latest collection, Monarch, is a poetic memoir of overlooked histories from the US West she was raised in (Cornerstone Press, 2023).
