SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Celebrated poet, filmmaker, and Poet Laureate Emeritus of Dublin, California, James Morehead, has unveiled his Autumn 2026 reading and event tour. Set in the beauty of fall colors, Morehead’s multi-city circuit includes independent bookstores, cultural spaces, and marquee literary venues across Northern California, Nevada, and Toronto (Canada).
“Growing up on the East Coast, before moving west to the San Francisco Bay Area, autumn has always been my favorite time of year,” said Morehead. “The crisp turn in the weather creates the ideal setting for live poetry readings that support local independent bookstores and celebrate the literary community. I’m particularly excited to be part of the Gather Anthology Tour.”

- Sunday, September 27 — Elk Grove, CA A Seat at the Table Books & Coffee Book Fair All-day community book fair, book signing, and indie press celebration.
- Saturday, October 10 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM — Reno, NV Hollow and Quill: Spooky Seasonal Reading & Festival A themed evening over the Sierra Nevada featuring spooky readings by Morehead and two guest authors, alongside local food and drink vendors, and other entertainment.
- Sunday, October 11 at 2:00 PM — Elk Grove, CA A Seat at the Table Books & Coffee Featured Sunday afternoon reading, Q&A, and book signing.
- Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 PM — San Francisco, CA Poolside Poets Anniversary × Litquake Saint Joseph’s Arts Society (1401 Howard St.) A marquee Litquake appearance marking the Poolside Poets milestone anniversary inside the historic, restored Romanesque church of Saint Joseph’s Arts Society.
- Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 PM — Toronto, ON Gather Anthology Tour (Canadian Launch) Typist Studios & Coffee The international leg of the tour, bringing together cross-border contributors for an evening of readings and coffee in Toronto.
- Sunday, October 25 at 11:30 AM — San Francisco, CA Gather Anthology Tour (California Launch) Golden Sardine A Sunday morning reading and celebration closing the autumn circuit in San Francisco’s historic North Beach neighborhood.
All appearances will include book signing sessions featuring Morehead’s collections, including canvas: poems, portraits of red and gray, and The Plague Doctor.
About James Morehead
James Morehead is the Poet Laureate Emeritus of Dublin, California, author of canvas: poems, portraits of red and gray: memoir poems, and The Plague Doctor, and host of the Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast. His poetry has been adapted into award-winning poetry films including the animated short film tethered, Twilight in the Sculpture Forest, and most recently Welcome to the Tenderloin. Morehead’s poem “Welcome to the Gallery” was set to music for baritone and piano, and premiered at The Presidio Chapel (San Francisco.).
Morehead’s work has appeared in Ignatian Literary Magazine, Beyond Words Literary Magazine, The Citron Review, Ekphrastic Review, Loud Coffee Press, Cathexis Northwest Press, and on NPR’s Poetically Yours. He has performed at Patagonia’s Poet Laureate Celebration, the San Francisco Chronicle’s Total SF podcast, and the Chicago Haiku Festival. He is an active member of the Academy of American Poets and AWP.
