Creating “canvas” and “tethered” – an Evening with Poet James Morehead (Oct 21 7pm EST)

James Morehead (Poet Laureate – Dublin, California), in partnership with the Lake of Bays Township Public Library, will be hosting a special live, virtual event on Thursday October 21, 7pm EST (register for free tickets here). James will read selections from his book “canvas: poems”, discuss his writing process, and field audience questions.

James will also share behind-the-scenes details on the amazing cover art created by Kari Byron and the award-winning animated short film “tethered” created with director–animator Gaia Alari, based on his poem of the same name, and share how the film was created. James is also host of The Viewless Wings Poetry Podcast.

“James Morehead’s ‘canvas’ opens itself to the poetry of everyday life, where stanzas are etched in sand, and poems end in sunset. Combining micro-narratives of Boston bullies cornering a young boy, with minute descriptions of time in quarantine, it draws us into moving tableaus of tenacious attention to what went down, what might come up, and where we might find ourselves. These are poems to be savored, re-read, kept handy for those times when only poetry will do.”

–W. J. T. Mitchell, Senior Editor of Critical Inquiry and Gaylord Donnelley Distinguished Service Professor, English and Art History, University of Chicago
